Transit to
discuss Dowse to Petone Upgrade with Korokoro
Community
Transit New Zealand is meeting the Korokoro community on Sunday (April 22) to discuss the Dowse to Petone Upgrade Project.
Transit Regional Manager Graham Taylor says the meeting, facilitated by the Korokoro Environment Group (KEG), will be attended by representatives of the project team and Hutt City Council to discuss how Korokoro residents will be affected by the upgrade project.
“With a contractor due to be announced soon, now is the time to give members of the Korokoro community, and others in the Lower Hutt area, information about how the project will ultimately affect them.
“We have indicated previously what would happen with the project, but now we can start to give more detailed information on how, what, when, where and why we will be doing things.”
Mr Taylor says work on the project is due to begin in the middle of 2007 to construct a new interchange connecting Dowse Drive and Hutt Road with a raised roundabout over SH2. Other improvements include a new overbridge connecting Korokoro Road with Hutt Road, improved and safer access to the Petone Railway Station park and ride facilities via a new overbridge over SH2 and a new service road to access the Korokoro industrial area from Korokoro Road. Pedestrian access to Petone railway station will also be improved with an extended covered deck. A new access to Percy’s Reserve with increased parking will also be provided.
The meeting is being held at the Korokoro School Hall from 1pm to 4pm on Sunday. All welcome to attend.
