A business centre for Devonport?
A business centre for Devonport?
April 30, 2007
North Shore City Council is proposing to redevelop the portion it owns of the old Devonport Gasworks site on Lake Rd as a local business centre.
Because of its size, location, and past and existing uses, it has been identified as an appropriate place for future development to serve this part of the city.
North Shore City’s senior project engineer, Chris Thomas, says half of the 1.3ha site that the council owns is currently zoned for business and the rest is recreation.
“A change to our District Plan would be needed to allow a business zone to be applied over the whole site, and we want to know what people think the best mix would be,” he says.
A decision has not yet been made about the future of the timber yard, landscaping operation, refuse transfer station, community workshop and architect’s office that currently occupy the site.
People have the chance to say what they think of the council’s proposal, and what types of businesses they think would be most appropriate there.
The submission period runs from May 7 to June 8, and forms are available from area offices and libraries, or online at www.northshorecity.govt.nz.
To find out more please come to a public meeting at 7pm on Thursday, May 17 at the North Shore United Soccer Club AFC (soccer) clubrooms, Allen Hill Stadium, Lake Rd.
