One more step forward for Western Link Road
Confirmation and acceptance today of the 90% funding for Stage 1 of the Western Link Road by the Regional Land Transport Committee meeting in Wellington is another significant step forward for the long awaited road, Councillor Gordon Strachan said today.
“While it may seem like just another administrative step, it is nonetheless a vital link in the chain of approvals and acceptances needed to get the first bulldozer under way,” Councillor Strachan said.
Kapiti Coast District Council’s Chief Executive Leigh Halstead agreed and said, “The past few weeks have been very significant. Since the initial Land Transport New Zealand approval early in April, we have also lodged the first of four consent applications for Stage 1.
“This confirmation by the Regional Land Transport Committee today is a bit like the icing on the cake.
“Our team are working hard to get the necessary consents and approvals in a timely manner. While there is still a huge amount of work to do, we’re striving for a start on construction during the 2008 calendar year,” Mr Halstead said.
