Civil Defence and welfare groups sign agreements

Agreements signed between Civil Defence and welfare groups
Improving welfare arrangement during emergency events is the aim of a new Canterbury Civil Defence and Emergency Management initiative.
To help achieve this, Memorandums of Understanding between the Canterbury Civil Defence and Emergency Management Group and various welfare agencies have been drawn up.
“This is very exciting for us because it formalises welfare arrangements between CDEM Group and welfare organisations. In emergencies, we will have a clear understanding of who will do what, when, and where,” Robert Upton, Canterbury Group Controller, said.
Child, Youth, and Family, Housing New Zealand Corporation, Ministry of Social Development, New Zealand Red Cross and the Salvation Army are signing agreements to provide to the CDEM Group support during an emergency. Support could include supplies, staffing, temporary shelters, information sharing, and training.
