Comments Regarding Wellington's Trolley Buses

Green Party MP Sue Kedgley said she was delighted that a Wellington icon has been saved, and that Wellingtonians will soon have a modern fleet of trolley buses to ride around in.

“Wellingtonians strongly support trolley-buses as a quiet, non-polluting, sustainable form of transport that uses renewable energy sources.

“Wellingtonians have stoically put up with dilapidated, 20 year old trolley buses that have passed their use-by date for years, and its great news that we will now be rewarded with a new fleet.

“Now that the future of the trolley buses is assured, we need to explore even more environmentally friendly options such as using wind energy as a source of electricity generation,” Ms Kedgley said.

The Sustainable Business Network is rapt that Greater Wellington and NZ Bus have agreed to upgrade the trolley bus service throughout the Wellington CBD and city suburbs. “Trolley buses are among the least polluting and most efficient forms of public transport available to us at present.

“We encourage all our members to use the bus network for business in the city and look forward to enjoying the upgraded trolley bus fleet,” says Mark Roberts, Green Fleet manager from the Sustainable Business Network.”
