Power line issues complex
The Council is striving to provide a complete response to the issues raised by residents affected by high voltage Transpower power lines, Kapiti Coast District Council chief executive Leigh Halstead said today.
“We’ve given the issue high priority because of the level of community concern but the more we look into it the more complex it becomes and the more additional information we need.
“We’ve asked affected landowners and Transpower a number of questions and the delay in responses from several parties, not just Transpower, means we’re not in a position to provide the Council and the community with a practical and effective way ahead yet.
“I’m making this statement today because we said we would get back to the community quickly but it’s apparent we’re still some way from having all the information we need. We believe we need to thoroughly investigate the issue rather than provide an answer that is not complete.
“Our Sustainable Development Manager, Andrew Guerin supported by one of our strategic project analysts is analysing the records we have on the issue.
“We’re still committed to providing answers as soon as possible but we are being constrained at the moment by information we are waiting for from Transpower and affected landowners,” Mr Halstead said.
“It’s frustrating but it’s important we get it right.”
