Annual Zonta Grant To Business Woman
Zonta Club of Christchurch Awards Annual Grant To Business Woman
By Zonta Club of Christchurch Canterbury Status of
Women Committee
The Status of Women Committee from Zonta
Club of Christchurch Canterbury presented its annual $5,000
grant to a Redcliffe business woman, Tracey Tishrei.
The
club raises money each year for the grant, and is available
to women who have been in business from one to five years.
Out of all applicants, three finalists are chosen and each
spoke at last night’s function at Christchurch city
Mayoral Reception.
Zonta Club of Christchurch is very
proud of the fact that one of its members, Chryssie Russell
was one of the first recipients of the grant and now she
chairs the Status of Women Committee. The grant enabled her
to purchase a computer and get a website engineer for her
business holding public demonstrations. From a local
position, she now enjoys nationwide one.
The award
coincided with a formal farewell for the Christchurch Deputy
Mayor, Carole Evans- as this would be her final event for
the club.
Councilor Evans’ achievements, awards, and her involvement in the community read like a book.
Sharon Lingham thanked Cr Evans for her continued support for Zonta Club of Christchurch Canterbury. ”Our club won’t have any shortages of memories for your support. Most of all, though, we’ll remember you for being a person to have served our Garden city as a deputy mayor”, said Sharon.
The grant was presented by Christchurch deputy mayor, Councilor Carole Evans.
In
spite of losing almost everything in a house fire, Tracey
managed to save some of her art work to be shown at an
exhibition by putting those on her balcony before the smoke
inhalation got the better of her as she fainted in the arms
of a passerby.
It was one of the salvaged items, a
cushion made from her own graduation dress that made her
decide to make more brightly cushions just to liven her
house new with.
Tracey was very thankful when she received
her confirmed order from Ballantynes Department store for
her cushions and matching wall hangings.
The
internationally renown Christchurch store is to stock her
new range of
t-shirts on July 14 in their Contemporary
Lounge.
Her range later extended to table-runners,
napkins, duvet covers and drawstring bags.
Only six weeks
ago, Tracey opened her design studio as until now she has
operating from home.
Tishrei New Zealand creates an
original range of interior decorative and fashion items
which combine comfort and luxury with a whimsical touch.

napkins and wall hangings, all items are made to a high
standard in New Zealand using quality materials.
Trace
has a knack of putting a negative into a positive and hopes
that her customers would be ‘uplifted’ as it did her
after the fire.
“I’m so honoured to have won this
award and I thank those angels of Zonta who made this
possible for me”, said Tracey.
Tracey has a fine arts
degree in painting, but began collage when her daughter,
Summer was a toddler. Summer would be into the turps and
oil. So that was the start of putting images.
The three
finalists displayed their products at the awards and
spoke
about their business. The other two finalists were
Pernickety
and Gabrielle Heath from Petticoat
Lane.
Zonta is a worldwide group for women executives and
among its aims is the improvement of the legal, political,
