More parking available in Albany
May 22, 2007
Visitors to Albany Village now have more space to park their cars, thanks to short-term parking restrictions.
North Shore City Council’s transport project development manager Ken Lee-Jones says the parking restrictions have been put in place to free up spaces for shoppers.
“There are a substantial number of car parks in Albany Village, however they were being used by workers and students to park all day,” he says.
Over 170 car parks will be affected by the short-term restrictions.
Mr Lee-Jones says business owners were complaining that trade in the area was suffering as a result of limited car parking for customers.
“We’re working closely with landowners to settle a lease as the land involved is not council-owned.
“These changes will impact on those working in the village. We recommend workers use public transport or car pool to reduce the demand on parking in the area. For those that must drive, all-day parking is available further away from the village,” he says.
Affected roads include State Highway 17, Kell Dr, Oteha Valley Rd Extension and the land behind Kell Dr.
