Service Workers Strike Averted

Service Workers Strike Averted

WEDNESDAY 30 MAY, 2007

Strikes by hospital service workers tomorrow and Friday have been called off while negotiations continue to find a settlement to the pay talks.

District Health Board Spokesman, Craig Climo, CEO of South Canterbury DHB, says he’s pleased there’s been enough progress for the union to withdraw the notices.

“We are continuing talks with the union that will take our latest offer back to members at meetings tomorrow. Our aim is to make even more progress towards a settlement so all remaining strike notices are lifted as well.

“The important thing is that negotiations are working and this union is not disrupting services as a bargaining tool.”

Mr Climo says no further comment will be made while the talks continue.
