Transit advises of power cable
repair works on SH1 at Basin Reserve
Transit wishes to advise the public that a power cable is to be repaired at the corner of Sussex and Buckle Street next week.
Transit Wellington Regional Manager Graham Taylor says Siemens have advised Transit that they need to carry out repairs, on behalf of United Networks, to a major 33kva power cable fault on the left-hand side of this corner by the Basin Reserve. In order to do the work the highway must be reduced to one lane just beyond the work site.
Work on the repairs begins on Monday (11 June) at 9am, continuing 24 hours a day until completed. The majority of the excavation work required will take place on Monday with repairs to the cable done overnight. The work is expected to take a maximum of three days to complete.
Electronic variable message signs will be placed at Cobham Drive and Adelaide Road to alert motorists of the work. This advance warning gives them the option to take Evans Bay Parade if they are coming from Eastern Surburbs or John Street, Wallace Street and then Taranaki Streets if they are coming from the Newtown area and avoid any potential delays on approaches to the city.
Mr Taylor says similar work was carried out a year ago to another cable in the same area, with the traffic managed well and no major delays experienced.
Residents have been advised of the work and those living along Sussex Street will be permitted to park behind the work site barriers under instruction from traffic management staff.
