Transit to close a section of SH1 southbound for street light maintenance
Transit New Zealand will be closing a southbound section of SH1 at for two nights next week while they conduct maintenance to street light poles.
Wellington Regional Manager Graham Taylor says the southbound section of SH1 between the Tawa on and off-ramps will be closed overnight on Monday and Tuesday (11 and 12 June) from 9.00pm to 5.00am (traffic flows and weather dependent).
Traffic will be diverted off the highway down the Tawa off-ramp, through the interchange and back onto the highway via the Tawa southbound on-ramp. Electronic message board signs will be posted to alert motorists to the diversion.
Mr Taylor says minimal disruption is anticipated as a result of the work given the time it is being undertaken and the fact that there is a short diversion. He says this is required maintenance to replace groundstubs where the base of the street light poles attach to the road.
The closure of a section of SH1 is due to the fact that the poles have a double outreach, are very large, and require both lanes to allow a crane room to move the poles back into place.
As indicated above, the works are weather dependent, particularly in relation to wind.
Transit apologises for any inconvenience in advance of this maintenance work.
