Important notice for road users: SH1 north of Kaikoura open from tomorrow

Transit New Zealand is pleased to announce that safety improvement work on State Highway 1 at Ohau Point, 26 km north of Kaikoura is nearing completion.

From Wednesday 20 June the road will be open and road users can expect delays of no longer than 20 minutes as the last of the safety improvements are carried out.

“We would like to thank road users for their patience during the road closures. We have now removed loose rock and secured wire mesh to part of the rock face, improving the safety of this narrow section of state highway,” Transit’s Operations Manager, Southern Peter Connors says.

Transit expects the safety improvement work at Ohau Point will be finished by Saturday 30 June.
