Arts In The City Has A Fresh New Look

Manukau City Council's Arts team kick of the second half of 2007 with a new look Arts in the City catalogue, a guide to city-wide events, exhibitions and programmes.

From Stand up! Stand out! the popular Manukau Secondary Schools Performing Arts Awards, exhibitions by emerging artists, fashion awards, drama and dance classes, the range of activities available in Arts in the City is impressive.

The OBJECTive Art Awards, formerly known as Manukau Vessel and Sculpture Exhibition and Awards, is for artists working in ceramics, glass, jewellery, metal work, textiles and furniture. With its new entry criteria, OBJECTive promises to provide a high level of design and craftsmanship at the 2007 awards and exhibition.

One of the major highlights on Manukau's arts calendar is the Villa Maria Cult-Couture Awards in late November. Entry forms will be available in July, so for artists and fashion designers it's time to get started on your designs.

Otara Music Arts Centre continues to offer its popular music classes and technology sessions in its SoundHouse computer suite. Community groups and local artists looking to access affordable and professional recording studio services should contact OMAC's Village Recording Studio.

Nathan Homestead in Manurewa has expanded its performing arts, dance and drama programme, including special day-time classes for home-schooled children in term three.

Fresh Gallery Otara will feature the first solo exhibition of Auckland artist Sam Morrison, who is currently involved with Auckland City Council's "Living Room" project in the Auckland CBD. This will be the first of four upcoming exhibitions at Fresh Gallery Otara, generously supported by the Manukau School of Visual Arts at MIT.
