National Land Transport Programme delivers for local government

28 June 2007

Local Government New Zealand welcomes the release of the 2007/2008 National Land Transport Programme and its increased Crown contributions towards road maintenance and improvements, Transport spokesman Graeme Weld said today.

“We are pleased to note that the three percent increased investment by local authorities into road maintenance and improvements has been matched by a three percent increase in the Crown share. Most of the local government increase in rates investment from $549 million to $568 million has been due to rising costs.”

“It is also worth noting that the overall rate funded investment into transport and roads by local government has increased from $757 million in 2006/2007 to $804 million in 2007/2008. This overall increase of six percent reflects a continued commitment by local government to passenger transport and a range of other transport services.

“Local government looks forward to working in partnership with the Minister of Transport and Government in the delivery of the 2007/2008 programme of works as outlined in the National Land Transport Programme,” said Mr Weld.
