Mayor keeps piece de resistance under wraps
For five years Rodney's Mayor, John Law, has created works of art for Waitoki School's annual art exhibition and auction, and this year he is once again keeping what he says will be his finest and final piece de resistance under wraps.
Mr Law says the fact that he will soon be relinquishing the mayoral chains is the only clue he can give about this year's painting.
"The painting reflects that this is goodbye and will have some people green with envy," says Mr Law cryptically.
"What I can divulge is that while it is a reasonably traditional acrylic on canvas piece, I've used two techniques to add a bit of interest," he says.
On average, Mr Law's works of art have fetched around $600 at Waitoki School's annual fundraising exhibition and silent auction.
"It's all a bit of fun for a great cause and I'm humbled to say that I have seen some of my past efforts on display in homes around the district."
The mayor's painting will be unveiled at Waitoki School's annual art exhibition and silent auction being held at the Waitoki Hall on August 24.
