More trains and buses for Bledisloe Cup game

ARTA Media Release
18 July 2007

More trains and buses for Bledisloe Cup game

Rugby fans heading to Eden Park to see the All Blacks take on the Wallabies can avoid parking hassles and catch the bus or train to the game, which kicks off at 7.35pm this Saturday.

The Auckland Regional Transport Authority's (ARTA) General Manager, Customer Services, Mark Lambert says, “Providing additional services for events such as the Bledisloe Cup is part of ARTA's commitment to encouraging Aucklanders to see public transport as an alternative to driving.

“For the Bledisloe Cup game, we are providing more passenger transport services to and from Eden Park than ever before,” Mr Lambert says.

Additional train services will be operating on all three lines. Before the game, trains will leave Britomart approximately every 10 minutes and Henderson every 20 minutes for Kingsland train station, which is conveniently located five minutes’ walking distance from Eden Park. After the game, there will be frequent services from Kingsland to Britomart, connecting with Southern and Eastern Line services. Additional west-bound services will also operate from Kingsland on the Western Line.

Special return tickets from Britomart and Newmarket to Kingsland cost $2.50 per adult and $1.50 per child, and return tickets from Henderson to Kingsland cost $6.00 per adult and $3.00 per child. Normal fares to and from all other stations apply. The special return tickets are on sale from 16 July, and passengers are encouraged to purchase them in advance from the Britomart ticket office.

Mr Lambert says that fans should be aware that bus replacement services are in place on the Western Line between Waitakere and Henderson on Saturday to support continuing work on the development of Auckland’s rail network.

Shuttle buses will be operating from Albany, Constellation, Takapuna and the CBD (Victoria Street) directly to Eden Park. Buses leave Albany Station at 5.00, 5.30 and 6.00pm; Constellation Station at 5.05, 5.35 and 6.05pm; and Takapuna (Lake Road) at 5.00 and 5.45pm. The cash fare for all of these services is $5 one way per passenger. Buses leave Victoria St West (outside the National Bank) every five minutes from 5.00pm. Tickets cost $2 one way. Buses to Albany, Constellation, Takapuna and the CBD leave Eden Park after the game.

“Passengers are advised to check timetables carefully before travelling and ensure they allow plenty of time to plan their journeys,” says Mr Lambert.
