Give your Wellington volunteer coach the big ‘thumbs up’ – nominate today!
*ONLY TWO WEEKS LEFT*
Come on Wellington- there are just two weeks left to nominate your coach for the 2007 Wattie’s Volunteer Coach of the Year!
Sport Wellington Region is proud to be a part of these awards and wants you to tell us why your volunteer coach deserves the big ‘thumbs up’!
The awards are sponsored by Wattie’s and Sport and Recreation New Zealand (SPARC), and recognise the work volunteer coaches do week in, week out, helping young New Zealanders enjoy and excel in their chosen sport. This year there are four new coaching categories – student, newcomer, general and lifetime – to acknowledge coaches of all different levels of experience.
Mike Walsh, Sport Wellington Region, Wattie’s Volunteer Coach of the Year co-ordinator, says sports teams and athletes are incredibly lucky to have such committed and enthusiastic coaches.
“Each year we are overwhelmed by the entries we receive. The dedication and commitment of these volunteer coaches is outstanding, and we are so pleased to be able to recognise their efforts. Last year we had a tremendous 200 entries – and this year we’re aiming to thank even more volunteer coaches.”
Every nominated coach goes in the running to be named Wattie’s Volunteer Coach of the Year in their respective category, and could win up to $3,000 towards their coaching development or equipment. Plus, everyone who nominates a coach has the chance to win one of ten adidas prizes.
To make an instant online nomination visit www.watties.co.nz or pick up an entry form from your local school, sports club or Sport Wellington Region Entries close on Wednesday August 1 so there’s still time to give your coach the big ‘thumbs up’!
Sport Wellington Region will be announcing its regional winners at an event in September with special guest speaker, Peter Miskimmin. The efforts and achievements of highly regarded coaches in each region are then considered by a national judging panel of well-known coaches and sportspeople who select the national finalists and category winners.
