Have your say on proposed Takapuna parking changes

North Shore City Council is seeking feedback from Takapuna shoppers, business owners, residents and workers on a series of proposed parking changes designed to better align parking supply with demand.

The proposed changes give parking priority to shoppers, visitors and those on quick errands, while longer-stay parkers (e.g. workers) might need to walk a little further than at present.

The proposals include:

* Replacing metered P120 parks outside shops and businesses with free P30 spaces to provide greater turnover of parking for shoppers and visitors.

* Increasing some two-hour Pay and Display parking to three hours or more, to meet demand from long-stay parkers.

* Changes to parking at The Strand to make it more accessible for beach-goers.

"The proposed changes will provide a better match between parking supply and demand, and are aligned to the 2003 central Takapuna parking policies, as well as parking surveys undertaken last year," North Shore City's transport planning manager, Graeme Read, says.

"At present, many parking spaces are not well-used, while in some parts of Takapuna the parking is not available for the users it's intended for. The new proposals will continue the transformation of central Takapuna into an even better place to live, work and play."

Consultation brochures are being distributed throughout central Takapuna this week showing details of the proposed changes, while seeking public feedback.

Brochures are also available from the council's Actionline (ph 486 8600). People can fill in the feedback form and send it to the council Freepost, or give their feedback online at www.northshorecity.govt.nz.

Consultation closes on August 31, before a summary of feedback is reported back to the Takapuna Community Board and the council's Infrastructure and Environment Committee.

Council transport planning staff will be in Hurstmere Rd between 11am and 2pm on Wednesday August 15, outside the Takapuna Visitor Information Centre (next to the post office), to discuss the proposed parking changes and answer any questions.
