The festival is part of
Auckland City Council’s ongoing efforts to protect
heritage areas and buildings. It provides an opportunity for
the public to celebrate their city’s distinct heritage and
brings alive times and places of yesteryear.
Chair of the Environment, Heritage and Urban Form Committee, Councillor Christine Caughey, encourages people to learn more about the events and those who shaped Auckland.
“The festival is a great opportunity to uncover old places and forgotten spaces, and reflect on traditions that may have disappeared.
“The growing number of events show the extent of local stories to be told. By learning more about the rich history of Auckland’s past, we can build a stronger sense of place, identity and belonging,” she says.
The Auckland Heritage Festival is produced by Auckland City Council, with funding from New Zealand Community Trust, and support from Heritage Auckland, Solid Gold 93.8fm and Radio Live 100.6fm.
