“Time for a change from “amoral” Auckland City Council, says Direct Democracy.

“The weak-willed, amoral decision by Auckland City Council to grant a permit to the Erotica “Boobs on Bikes” Parade simply affirms that it is time for a seismic change at Auckland City Council headquarters” says Auckland Mayoral Candidate and Deputy Leader of the Direct Democracy Party (www.ddp.co.nz), Steve Taylor.

“Section 125 of the Crimes Act is very clear when it states that it is a crime to “wilfully (do) any indecent act in any place to which the public have or are permitted to have access, or within view of any such place”.

“I would have thought that precedent had already been set on this issue, with the Advertising Standards Authority upholding a complaint in 2003 over Erotica displaying a mobile billboard. Clearly, the current Auckland City Council thinks little of offending parents, children, families, and established social norms in favour of pandering to selective tolerance, inclusivity, and diversity”.

“I would be interested to know how Aucklanders would have decided about whether or not to allow this event to proceed via a Binding Referendum – a core platform of Direct Democracy, and of my own nomination for Mayor of Auckland”.

Somewhere, sometime, someone has to stand up, draw a line in the sand for decency and self- respect, and hold that line – clearly, the Auckland City Council has failed in this task” says Mr Taylor.
