Wanaka Skies Light Up For Mtv NZ's First Birthday
Wanaka Skies Light Up For Mtv NZ's First Birthday And Billabong Slopestyle Jam
AUCKLAND August 18, 2007: The
white slopes of Snow Park received a splash of
colour
today when MTV NZ celebrated their first birthday with
quite
literally a bang.
A three metre high MTV fireball
logo set in the mountain and a pyrotechnics
display
worthy of new year's celebrations lit up the Wanaka skies,
as thousands of people jumped to the sounds of international
hip hop sensation LUPE FIASCO and GEMINI.
This world class
event followed the exceptional two days of pro
snowboarding
from the Billabong Slopestyle Jam and truly
celebrated the 1st year anniversary of New Zealand's own MTV
with a memorable event never seen before in NZ but can still
be viewed on MTV NZ Sky Digital Channel 60 September 15 at
5pm.
MTV's Snow Jam set up just outside the Woolshed at
Snow Park created a
perfect backdrop for the show which
was filmed and produced by over 150 crew and
staff from
New Zealand and Australia.
Over 30 pro snowboarders
performed huge tricks at the Nixon Throwdown over
a
purpose built kicker while The Mint Chicks, Savage and
Mareko rocked the
crowds.
MTV NZ VJS Amber Peebles and
Jay Reeve then invited the audience to sing MTV
a Happy
Birthday before introducing their gift - international Hip
Hop sensation Lupe Fiasco who only days before performed to
a sold out concert in Auckland. As the crowds bounced to the
grooves, the Wanaka skies lit up with over 150 fireworks
creating a sight never seen before at Snow Park.
"In the
end the weather smiled on us, but whatever happened we were
here to
throw a monster party, and that's what we did.
Launching MTV New Zealand has given us the chance to play in
one the most spectacular location in the world - this high
altitude birthday party has hopefully been a very fitting
celebration.' Said Ean Thorley MTV Networks Australia and
New Zealand Executive Producer.
