Streamlined consents have led to faster processing
A new streamlined resource consent process has helped Auckland City Council to improve its productivity.
Processing times have steadily improved over the last 12 months, despite an increase in applications, particularly in the central part of the city.
“The streamlined resource consent process, which Auckland City was the first local authority in the region to institute, has had continued success in ensuring greater speed in processing consents,” says Councillor Glenda Fryer, chairperson of the Planning and Regulatory Committee. “It has proven to be a robust system which maintains the integrity of the process and ensures we get a quality result in terms of complying with the rules of the district plan.”
Building consent lodgements were down 7.8 per cent for the year to June 30, 2007, while processing within the statutory 20-day timeframe had improved from 78 per cent to 83 per cent due to improved process and efficiency gains.
Urgent requests for land information memorandums (LIMs) and property file CDs continue to increase. However, the council is keeping up with the demand, processing all enquiries within five working days, which easily betters the statutory target of 10 days.
