Aucklanders, Have Your Say From Far Away
Have your say from far away
Aucklanders who will be overseas for this year’s local body elections won’t miss out on the chance to have their say.
Anyone who will be away from home during the voting period (21 September-13 October) has until Friday to provide their electoral officer with an alternate address.
“If voters are away say in France for the Rugby World Cup they just need to give us a call by the end of the month with an address that they’ll be at around 21 September, “ says Dale Ofsoske, electoral officer for four of the Auckland region’s eight councils.
Their voting documents will then be posted to this nominated overseas address.
“People just need to be reminded that they have to post their voting documents back so that we receive them by midday on 13 October. Legislation prohibits us from receiving faxed or scanned documents,” says Mr Ofsoske.
Mr Ofsoske adds that anyone who misses the end of the month deadline to provide an alternate address can still cast a special vote by contacting their electoral officer.
Elections are being held for:
*
mayor, councillors and community board members in your
territorial authority (city or district)
* Auckland
Regional Council members
* District Health Board members
* and licensing trust members in some areas.
Voting documents will be delivered by post from 21 September and voting closes at midday on Saturday 13 October.
