TNT Pursuit 07 – Challenge Issued.
Forget the mayoral race. The gauntlet has been thrown down and the challenge issued to competitors in Auckland’s other exhilarating race - TNT Pursuit 07.
The winners of TNT Pursuit 2006 say they can’t be beaten and they’re challenging fellow Aucklanders to prove them wrong.
Last year’s winning duo from the Pure Outdoors team is going to be hard to beat in TNT Pursuit 2007, a gripping race where entrants’ skill and wit is put to the test in a demanding strategic race through Auckland’s CBD.
Competitors must pass through various checkpoints within a designated time frame. At the checkpoints, they must crack clues in order to move to the next stage. Strategy and planning are a huge part of the game.
Although last year Pure Outdoors’ Glenn Browne and his team-mate Evy Apeldoorn completed the entire course on foot, competitors are encouraged to take advantage of Auckland’s public transport – a bus, train, even one of Auckland Heart of the City’s popular JAFAcabs.
But Glenn does have a built-in advantage. He runs a West Auckland business that specialises in eco-adventure education.
“And that means we spend quite a bit of time in the fresh air,” Glenn says. “On top off that, we compete in up to 10 adventure events a year, TNT Pursuit being a favourite.
“So that’s why I’m challenging other Aucklanders – both businesses and residents and especially the Westies – to put together teams and see if they can knock us off our pedestal.”
TNT Pursuit 07 has seen a number of innovations introduced this year including a Joker wildcard. Competitors who find the Joker in the CBD can catch him and be issued with time credits.
Dressing up is a big part of the game - in 2006 the event attracted a number of nuns, fairies and other characters. Similar characters are expected to take to the streets again this year but the organisers are also anticipating lots of new faces.
With space for only 250 teams, interested competitors need to register now to ensure their place in Auckland’s most exhilarating challenge for 2007. Entries received after September 28 will attract a late fee.
TNT Pursuit 07 is suitable for men and women of all fitness levels and people aged 12 and over are encouraged to participate. Anyone under 16 must have signed parental approval to take part.
Two- and four-person teams can enter. TNT Pursuit 07 takes place on Saturday October 6 and details including the entry form are available online at www.pursuit07.co.nz.
So it’s time to dust off your trainers, sharpen your wits and pick up the Pure Outdoors gauntlet.
