City Churches Celebrate DCM
City Churches Celebrate DCM
A thanksgiving service paying tribute to the work of Downtown Community Ministry takes place this Sunday at the Wesley Methodist Church in the city.
It seeks to rekindle the annual celebration services, held by DCM member churches, that began in 1969 when DCM was formed.
Representatives from each member church will contribute to parts of the celebration and hymns will be lead by the Wesley congregation’s Samoan, Tongan and Fijian choirs.
In the main address, Director Stephanie McIntyre will speak on the work of DCM in the city and provide an update on the progress of the wet house proposal.
DCM’s member churches that support the inner city work include: Wesley Wellington Methodist Church, St Peter’s Willis St, St Andrews on the Terrace, St John’s in the City, St Joseph’s Basin Reserve and the Society of Friends.
The service begins at 2pm and attendees are asked to bring along a non-perishable item for the foodbank such as tinned fish or canned vegetables.
An afternoon tea will follow.
