Mayor Mourns Manukau City Councillor
North Shore City Mayor George Wood is saddened to hear of the death of Manukau City Councillor Neil Morrison.
Mayor Wood says Mr Morrison was a thorough gentleman who worked tirelessly in his capacity as chairman of the Auckland Civil Defence and Emergency Management Committee.
"Neil is a great loss to the Auckland region," he says.
And North Shore City deputy mayor Dianne Hale says a number of councillors had local government involvement with Councillor Morrison during his long elected life. She says she worked alongside him on the Auckland Local Government Economic Development Strategy and as a member of the Local Government New Zealand Zone One committee, and he will be missed.
North Shore City Councillor, Gary Holmes, who served on the Watercare Shareholders' Representative Group with Councillor Morrison, says he was shocked to hear the news yesterday.
"As a former MP, Neil had a wide set of skills. He served many regional groups and his sane and logical input was highly valued," he says.
"On a personal note, I have known Neil for about 20 years and I will miss him," says Councillor Holmes.
Neil Morrison had been a councillor for Pakuranga since 1989 and was chairman of Manukau City Council's economic development committee and also chaired the Auckland Civil Defence and Emergency Management Committee.
