Auckland Heritage Festival
On Sunday, 23rd September, the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron hosted a story-telling session onboard a Classic Yacht as part of Auckland’s Heritage Festival.
Over 50 people, including children, attended the morning event. The story-teller was Pompey Pirate (from Auckland Maritime Museum) who entertained with stories of the notorious English pirate – Blackbeard.
After the story-telling session the guests looked through classic yacht ‘Waitangi’ (1894) and the classic tug ‘Te Hauraki’ (1920) which were both berthed behind the Squadron for the event, then came back to the Squadron to enjoy morning tea.
The story-telling session was a joint initiative between the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron and the Classic Yacht Association and was in support of Auckland’s Heritage Festival and to celebrate Auckland’s maritime history.
The Auckland Heritage Festival ends on Sunday, 30th September.
