Media Release

25 September 2007

“Professional Door Person Training returns to Taranaki”

Taranaki DHB is taking another proactive step towards reducing alcohol related harm. Professional Door Person Training will be provided to licensed premises to assist them in effectively managing patrons.

A free training course focusing on the responsibilities of bar and door staff will be offered to staff members working in licensed premises throughout Taranaki. The staff members will learn and further develop their skills and knowledge within this industry, which will enable them to become confident, successful, and compliant hosts in their licensed premise.

Due to its success held in November, 2006 Darryl Stonnell, facilitator will return once again to Taranaki. He is the Director of ‘Sentinel Evaluation and Training Limited’, which is a Wellington Security Company. He will facilitate these sessions and train many staff members over three evenings offering Level One (NZQA accredited) and Level Two. His company provides professional Door Person Training throughout the country.

The training is organised by the Taranaki DHB Health Promotion Unit and Taranaki Youth Access to Alcohol Group of the New Plymouth Safer Community Council. This is a coalition group made up of representatives from various agencies, such as the Police, three District Councils throughout Taranaki, ACC, Safer Community Council, and the Taranaki DHB Health Promotion Unit.

These training sessions will take place on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday 24th, 25th, and 26th September, 2007, 6 – 10pm in New Plymouth.
