21st Century Infrastructure Needed For New Economy

“Wellington needs to build reliable 21st century infrastructure if it is to prosper in the new economy of the global marketplace”. That’s the message from aspiring local body politician, Roger Ellis.

“We can’t expect to compete in the 21st century with 1950s transport links” said Mr Ellis.

“Whether it is the need to upgrade public transport, the need to complete overdue roading projects or the need to provide broadband services to parts of the northern suburbs that don’t have them – the Council must take a leadership role in securing efficient infrastructure investment” said Mr Ellis.

Mr Ellis is an experienced senior manager in the telecommunications industry having worked in regulatory affairs and community relations during the last ten years.

“For our city economy to prosper we need to be well integrated in the global marketplace and we need to sell valuable, innovative products and services into overseas markets. A reliable, efficient, and modern infrastructure platform is central to such integration” said Mr Ellis.

Among the specific local projects Mr Ellis is promoting are: Transmission Gully, Woodman Drive road link; improved parking in Johnsonville, Tawa and Newlands, redevelopment of the Johnsonville Town Centre, controlled infill housing, reliable public transport links, the Newlands Community Centre and a sustainable Neighbourhood Centre at Churton Park.

Roger Ellis was previously involved in successfully lobbying for a new school at Churton Park and is now an Independent candidate for Wellington City Council standing in the Northern Ward.
