Duck Creek Plan Change has been notified

Process is vital now the Duck Creek Plan Change has been notified

The Porirua City Council last week moved to resolve issues about the development of the former Whitby Golf Club land. The Council has notified its intention to establish a special zone in the area of Duck Creek to bring greater certainty to the development of the area after years of dispute within the community.

"The intention is to maximize the value of property by ensuring there is a plan for the whole area that recognises need to manage floods and protect environmental values. We are going for a win-win here", said Northern Ward Councillor Robert Shaw

"A particularly long period has been allowed for submissions on the new plan rules and the hope is that careful, thoughtful submissions will come forward. There is a strategy built into the Council's approach which is to make as few specific rules as possible and to have the major issues sorted out when someone wants to propose a subdivision in the area."

Cr Shaw said councillors are "acutely aware of the need to be fair to all parties and to maintain the highest standards of urban planning in this critical part of the City. Council is going to play King Solomon here", he added.
