Airport 2nd Runway Construction Start Another Good Sign For Auckland’s Future….

The start of construction of a second runway at Auckland Airport is an important step in transforming Auckland into a world-class destination, said Auckland Chamber of Commerce chief executive, Michael Barnett.

However the Airport runway project needs to be matched by progress on the Manukau Harbour Crossing duplication and the Waterview connection that are needed to provide efficient access to the airport from the city, and have been going through a planning process since last century.

“I would like to believe that construction will start on both without too much more delay, and especially the Manukau Harbour bridge project which Government has promised is scheduled to be finished by 2011 – when the 2nd runway will be opened – and ahead of Auckland hosting the Rugby World Cup.”
