Mental Health Awareness Week 8th-14th of October

Waitara High School students turn to art – graffiti art - to celebrate Mental Health Awareness Week next week.

The theme for Mental Health Awareness week next week is who we are and where we stand “Ko Papatuanuku toku turangawaewae.”-

To promote Mental Health Awareness week, the Taranaki DHB Health Promotion Unit Youth Health Team are working with Waitara High Schools Peer Support Team to involve students in the design and production of a Mural celebrating “Who we are and where we stand”.

The Peer Support Team from Waitara High School consulted with students within the school environment to come up with ideas to express what the theme means to them.

A professional Graffiti artist Ben or aka Dyle52 part of the TMD group, one of the top professional graffiti art groups in NZ, will be supervising students to develop and produce the mural.

On Thursday and Friday 11-12th October, the mural will be produced on the wall next to the BP station on McLean Street in Waitara with a launch on Friday afternoon at 4pm.

In addition to the mural, a car will also be painted with the theme of a place to stand. The car will be driven around different venues promoting mental health awareness throughout Taranaki.

The planning team would like to thank Mufti, Harry Duynhoven, Waitara High School Students, for the support to make this initiative a reality.

Media are invited to attend the launch of the mural at 4pm on Friday October 12th at the wall next to the BP station on McLean St in Waitara.
