Students to design for Northern Busway
October 11, 2007
Intermediate students have an opportunity to win their school $1000 this term with North Shore City and the Northern Busway.
The Design and Win competition calls all year 7 and 8 students to design a poster encouraging North Shore people to use the Northern Busway.
Students will be encouraged to think about the benefits the busway will bring when putting their design together, says Kylie Smith, North Shore City transport communications advisor.
“The project calls on the students’ ability to understand and artistically express these benefits. The winning design will be judged on its impact as a visual statement, alongside its delivery of a public transport message”, Ms Smith says.
The winning poster will be used for busway publicity, including Adshel (bus shelter) advertising.
Opening in February 2008, the busway is the first of its kind in New Zealand. North Shore City, along with project partners Transit New Zealand and the Auckland Regional Transport Authority, wants its youth to get involved by entering the competition.
Additional to the $1000 prize, to be spent on resources for the winner’s school, the winner will receive a $50 voucher for their effort and special guest status at the busway opening.
Each school has been invited to submit their
top ten entries for final judging. The finalists’ entries
will be judged by the North Shore City Mayor and
representatives of the Lake House and Mairangi Bay Arts
Centres.
Entries close Friday, November 16 and the
winner will be announced on Friday, November 23.
