Forget the Bling Bling! Supermarket Tours

Free Supermarket Tours are just one of the local activities organised for Forget the Bling Bling! Do the Whanau Thing! a local campaign to help families prepare for a fun, low-cost Christmas.

“Our popular Supermarket Tours give practical food shopping tips that will help ease the family budget during the festive season,” says Taranaki DHB Health Promotion Dietician Jill Nicholls .

“These tours are really useful for everyone, especially those on a lower income or budget. We will show you how to look for cheaper meat options, extend your meat meals with vegetables and beans, reduce your vegetable waste and what a portion size is for adults and children,” says Mrs Nicholls.

There are six Supermarket Tours planned for New Plymouth, Waitara and Hawera

Monday 15th October 10am Pak n Save New Plymouth
Wednesday 17th October 7.30pm Pak n Save New Plymouth
Tuesday 23rd October 7pm New World Waitara
Tuesday 23rd October 7.30pm Pak n Save Hawera
Wednesday 24th October 10am Pak n Save New Plymouth
Wednesday 31st October 7.30pm Pak n Save New Plymouth

Registrations for tours is essential by phoning the
Taranaki DHB Health Promotion Unit on 753 7799 or emailing health.promotion@tdhb.org.nz. Those who register for one of the following supermarket tours will have the chance to win a cook book.

Other free activities during the week include: Budgeting advice, and a series of craft workshops on flax weaving, beading and card/voucher making at Marfell

Local Forget the Bling Bling! Do the Whanau Thing! activities are part of the nationwide Anti-Poverty Week from 14 to 20 October, supported by Taranaki DHB Health Promotion Unit, New Plymouth District Council in partnership with the Marfell Community Centre, Manaaki Oranga,,Tui Ora, The Women’s Centre, New Plymouth Budget Advisory Service and Work and Income New Zealand.
