Calling all creatures of the night to Auck Zoo
Calling all creatures of the night to Auckland
Zoo
Blow the cobwebs off your broomsticks between Nickelodeon Boo at the Zoo is back to bring you a “spooktacular” Halloween, from 6pm to 9.30pm Saturday 27 October.
Auckland Zoo will be transformed into a ghoulish wonderland for a night of great non-stop entertainment with music, games, monsters, stilt walkers, fairies, face painters and more. Everyone will receive a loot bag full of treats and be in with a chance to win killer prizes – including the grand prize of a family trip for four to Dreamworld, Australia – by purchasing an ASB Kashin Dollar entry ticket.
The 6pm witching hour marks the start of a frightfully fun adventure for kids and grown-ups to travel around the themed Boo stops. Are you brave enough to make it through the cave of spiders, or take on snake alley? Will you dare to put your hand in the crate of terror or ride through a tiger’s mouth? Where ever you go, and who ever you come across, expected the unexpected – especially from Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob spooky pants, super-fairies Cosmo and Wanda, devilish Dora the explorer, and master of “scare-a-monies” Sam Wills.
The band rotunda is spook-central and the place to park your broom for the night. There will be non-stop entertainment with the Boo Band and The Funky Monkeys – New Zealand’s answer to The Wiggles. Sam Wills will lead phantom-tastic games, including guess the celebrity ghost and the parade of costumes, with lots of prizes up for grabs including best recycled or home-made costume.
If all the scary activities are sending you batty, fear not – there are plenty of fun activities for everyone to take part in.. You can try your luck at being a Nickelodeon presenter at the Nick Stage – and you might just see yourself on television. You can also take a ride on the giant pirate ship, or have your photo taken with Cadbury Freddo Frog and your favourite Nickelodeon characters
Animal lovers will also be dead keen to know that Boo at the Zoo also supports the zoo’s conservation efforts, with a percentage of net profits directed to the Auckland Zoo Conservation Fund. All proceeds from the sale of entry tickets for the trip to Dreamworld go towards native frog research, which aims to raise enough money to purchase a monitor for the frog nursery.
“The zoo is a safe, family friendly and frightfully fun place for all the family to trick or treat this Halloween, and it’s great to be able to support the zoo’s conservation effort for native frogs,” says Auckland Zoo events co-ordinator Jackie Sanders.
“As a zoo we are committed to sustainability, and this year we have fabulous prizes for the best recycled or homemade costume. I hope we can encourage people to use things they already have at home, rather than buying pre-made costumes. It all helps reduce our environmental footprint,” says Ms Sanders
Tips for making a recycled Halloween costume:
The kitchen is a great source materials including rubbish bags, milk bottles and egg cartons.
Check the garden out for decorative flowers and fronds to add colour and texture.
Mum’s make-up and water based paints are great for fake tattoos and face paint.
Props like swords and wands can be made from dead wood or toilet rolls.
Helping to make this fabulous event possible are Nickelodeon, Cadbury, SKY TV, Classic Hits, ASB, GO Holidays, Paradise Island Resort Gold Coast and Dreamworld.
