Time to reward those working for our environment
ENVIRONMENT BAY OF PLENTY MEDIA RELEASE
Time to reward those working for our environment
For immediate release: Monday 15 October
Know someone doing great work for the environment? Well now’s the time to speak up!
Environment Bay of Plenty’s Environmental Awards are open for nominations, and coordinator Heidi Wana is looking for entries.
“If you think someone deserves to be recognised for the great work they’re doing for the environment – nominate them,” she says. “It could be a local school, community group, business or even an individual. If they’ve made a difference then make sure others know about it.”
The awards offer prizes up to $1000 and celebrate those who are working for a better environment.
“It’s great to see people being acknowledged for the work they’re doing. It’s often voluntary, their only motivation being their passion for the environment. Last year we had 37 entries, which was more than double the number we received the year before. It shows that people are out there doing some great work, but we know there are even more.”
This year’s awards have five entries: individuals, educational organisations, community groups, businesses, and media.
Entries close on Wednesday 31 October, so Ms Wana encourages people to get nominating.
“It’s pretty easy, you can even enter yourself or your group. Just fill in the entry form, attach supporting photographs and information and send it in to us. Entry forms are available on our website at www.envbop.govt.nz, or by giving us a call on 0800 ENV BOP (368 267).”
