We wish you a Merry Christmas
AUCKLAND CITY COUNCIL
MEDIA RELEASE
14 November 2007
We wish you a Merry Christmas
Santa is on his way and Auckland City Council is celebrating with eight free community Christmas events for everyone to enjoy.
Families and friends are encouraged to share the spirit of the festive season with others in their local community.
There’s a twinkling start to this year’s celebrations, with the Onehunga Christmas Lights event on 30 November featuring local music groups, carol singing, face painting, a visit from the big guy and the lighting of Jellicoe Park’s Christmas tree.
A Christmas tradition in Auckland for decades, Carols by Candlelight events take place during December in Three Kings, Ponsonby, Waiheke Island, St Heliers and Balmoral – giving Aucklanders the chance to sing their hearts out to their favourite festive tunes.
Otahuhu celebrates Christmas on 15 December with brass bands, choirs and family entertainment along the main street and in Criterion Square.
Avondale Town Square will come alive on 16 December for the suburb’s own unique multicultural Carols by Spiderlight event featuring local performances, carol singing and more.
The council is proud to bring people more than 60 free events to enjoy this summer.
