ARTA increases services to popular Sylvia Park

ARTA Media Release

22 November 2007

ARTA increases bus and train services to popular Sylvia Park

The popularity of Sylvia Park as a shopping destination and the growing use of public transport as an easy way to get there have prompted ARTA to increase the frequency of bus and train services to the complex.

ARTA's General Manager, Customer Services, Mark Lambert says, "The success of the Sylvia Park retail and entertainment destination has led to a flow-on effect in greater demand for public transport to get to the complex. With Christmas just around the corner, shoppers will benefit from more frequent bus services and rail services to Sylvia Park.”

From Sunday 25 November, there will be changes to bus routes 009, 715 and 717 to provide better bus links and more frequent services to Sylvia Park.

The 009 bus service will no longer operate to Panmure, but instead now provides the Sylvia Park shopping centre with its first cross-town bus route (linking New Lynn, Blockhouse Bay, Onehunga and Penrose with Sylvia Park), seven days a week.

Bus route 717 (Otahuhu to Downtown, via Sylvia Park) will now operate until 6pm seven days a week instead of between 9am and 3pm Monday to Saturday only. This will provide additional services for Sylvia Park workers and shoppers who live in the Tamaki Edge area beyond walking distance of a train station.

From 2 December, there will also be additional weekend train services to Sylvia Park to tie in more closely with the opening hours of shops. From this date, half-hourly services between Britomart and Otahuhu (via Sylvia Park and Glen Innes) on the Eastern Line will be extended to 6pm on Saturdays, and Sunday services will be doubled to half hourly between 9am and 6pm.
