AQUATICA '08

IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AQUATICA

- Auckland’s Harbour Festival is back! -

Aquatica – Auckland’s Harbour Festival is returning to the City of Sails over Auckland Anniversary Weekend, 25 – 28 January 2008, and looks set to be a celebration not to be missed.

At the 2006 event 223,000 Aucklanders were treated to fireworks displays, tall ships, street theatre, fly-pasts and concerts. This year promises to be even bigger and better with plenty of activities for all the family both on and off the water, and in the sky.

Based in Auckland’s Viaduct Harbour, Aquatica will cover three distinct zones including:

Aspiration, travel and history – based around the Maritime Museum, Hobson Wharf and Princes Wharf, this zone will include activities such as boarding the naval frigate, tall ships and displays of classic craft, street theatre and maritime re-enactment displays

Entertainment and culture – located on Te Wero island and the Eastern Viaduct, the main concert and carnival area will include rides, food, acrobatic performances, free music and cultural performances, and major ticketed concerts by New Zealand and international acts (to be announced shortly)

Food and relaxation – situated quayside on the Viaduct Harbour, a "Fare on the Pier" food market  can be found in and around Market Place and Waitemata Plaza, while street theatre and buskers provide entertainment
