Cakes earn $14,000 for worthy cause

Background
The Catholic Caring Foundation is the charitable foundation of the Catholic Bishop of Auckland, providing funding for grass-roots organisations that work with the marginalised in society. Its primary purpose is to strengthen families and community networks, working as a fundraising agent through events and donations in order to provide financial support to community based organisations.

Christmas Cake Appeal

Again this year, the Catholic Caring Foundation ran the Bishop’s Bake Christmas Cake Appeal - a hugely important annual fundraiser. Christmas is a time when many families and individuals struggle to cope with stresses and financial pressures. This year the Foundation included on its cake order form, an option for our donors to donate one of these fantastic, rich, moist cakes to a family in need.

Staff have been overwhelmed by the generous support given to the appeal. Over $14,000 worth of Cakes have been donated through the programme and this will now benefit around 700 different families throughout the city.

Leanne Tiscornia, General Manager of the Foundation stated “I am simply overwhelmed by the generosity of people. We were expecting to receive around 200 donated cakes at the most. The amount of money raised is just unbelievable. We hope the cakes will bring a little cheer to families this Christmas time.’

The cakes have been distributed by many different community groups and organisations such as St.Vincent de Paul Societies, Monte Cecilia House, De Paul House and Catholic Family and Community Services. The Foundation has also reached out ecumenically and has given cakes to the Salvation Army and other Christian based organisations. “It is hoped that the appeal will grow from strength to strength and we are already looking forward to next year’s programme,” Leanne Tiscornia said.
