Harvey To Chair Mayoral Forum
The Mayor of Waitakere Bob Harvey has been elected chair of the Mayoral Forum in Auckland.
The forum includes all mayors in the region, as well as the chair of the ARC Mike Lee, and is a powerful and influential body dealing with a wide range of regional issues.
Mayor Harvey, who was elected in Waitakere for an unprecedented sixth term in the October local body elections, says a major focus of the forum’s work in the coming months will be presenting the priority issues facing Auckland to government and the Royal Commission into Auckland governance.
He is also keen on working closely with the Regional Sustainable Development Forum on the One Plan for Auckland.
“Clearly the Auckland region has major issues that need addressing in partnership with government,” says Mayor Harvey.
“In 2008 we must get it right and the forum will be very focused on the important issues that vital to Auckland’s future.
“Infrastructure provision, economic transformation and engagement with government on social, cultural and sustainability issues need to be progressed on a regional basis.”
Mayor Harvey also said there was an enormous amount of work to get through in 2008.
