ARC welcomes One Plan for Auckland region

One Plan for Auckland - ARC welcomes new era of regional collaboration

22 February 2008

Work has begun on a new multi-agency initiative to improve the speed and effectiveness of regionally significant programmes through greater collaboration amongst national, regional and local government.

One Plan for Auckland is in its early stages of development and will prioritise a limited number of large-scale regional projects, where the focus will be on integration to improve results.

Auckland Regional Council (ARC) chairman Michael Lee says One Plan is focused on achieving results on the ground.

“One Plan is about getting things done. We’ve got to give better value and speedier results on some of the major infrastructure projects that Aucklanders are telling us, and have been telling us for years, need to be done.

“Work on One Plan is underway to identify priority programmes for the first version and we expect to announce the kinds of projects we’re looking at by the end of May 2008.”

One Plan for Auckland will be led by the Regional Sustainable Development Forum made up of all the local authorities, central government, mana whenua and neighbouring councils.

Key players in business, infrastructure, industry, environment and the social sector will also be involved following the release of the draft plan. A final version of One Plan is expected to be approved by the Regional Sustainable Development Forum in September 2008.
