Fisher & Paykel announces first public recycling day

Each year tens of thousands of appliances are put into landfill nationwide – so Fisher & Paykel is opening its doors to help.

This Saturday 8 March from 8am to 4pm the public can bring any brand of old appliances to Fisher & Paykel, 14 Allens Road, East Tamaki and the items will be recycled for free.

This unique initiative is a first for the company and one that George Gray, Recycling Manger at Fisher & Paykel hopes will take off.

“At Fisher & Paykel we recycle over 25,000 products each year – this Saturday for the first time we’re accepting a huge range of appliances from our staff and the general public,” says Mr Gray

“By recycling these items we hope to ease the strain on natural resources and avoid potential future hazards associated with dumping into landfills. We hope the day will be a success so we can look to roll this initiative out to other regions and continue to make a positive difference to our environment.”

Not only is the recycling at no cost to the public, the first 100 appliances will get a voucher of up to $150 towards a new Fisher & Paykel product.

On Fisher & Paykel Recycling Day, the following items will be accepted:

o Refrigerators o Freezers o Washers (top and front loading) o Dryers o Dishwashers o Ovens (wall and freestanding) o Cooktops (gas and electric) o Rangehoods o Waste disposal units o Microwaves

Old appliances can be dangerous so Fisher & Paykel representatives will de-gas them as needed. The company is not in a position to accept televisions, stereos, mobile telephones, computers or furniture.
