New platform for New Lynn rail users

ARTA/ONTRACK
6 March 2008

New platform for New Lynn rail users

As preparatory work on the New Lynn Rail Trench Project continues, the Auckland Regional Transport Authority (ARTA) advises that bus replacements will be in place on parts of the Western Line this weekend. Train commuters are advised that from Monday 10 March passengers catching the train at New Lynn will use a new platform.

The New Lynn Rail Trench Project is being managed by ONTRACK, who are working closely with ARTA and its train operator Veolia Transport to minimise disruptions to train commuters.

ARTA's General Manager, Customer Services, Mark Lambert says, "On Saturday 8 March, buses will replace trains between Waitakere and Avondale on the Western Line. On Sunday 9 March, bus replacements will be in place between New Lynn and Avondale. We understand that the bus replacements may cause disruptions to passengers, but the work is an important component of the overall upgrade across the Auckland rail network. The support and understanding of passengers is greatly appreciated.

"Because regular journey times may vary this weekend and some of the RAIL BUS stops are a few minutes' walk from the train station, passengers are advised to check timetables and allow more time for their journey."

Where buses replace trains, normal train fares will apply for the entire journey. Passengers should look out for the RAIL BUS sign at affected stations.

From Monday 10 March, the existing platform at New Lynn station will move, and all train services to Britomart and Waitakere will use a new temporary platform until further notice. The new platform can still be accessed via Totara Avenue, with the new station entrance located just down from the existing entrance.

The new platform will be clearly signposted, and MAXX Ambassadors will be at New Lynn station on Monday 10 from 6am to 6pm and Tuesday 11 March from 6am to 10am to help passengers get used to the new access arrangements.

Passengers should allow more time for their journey to the station while they get used to the new access arrangements and a new pedestrian crossing on Clark St.

Aucklanders can get more information about the Western Line bus replacements and about train timetables from MAXX on (09) 366 6400 or at www.maxx.co.nz
