Hundreds Turn Out for Waterview Connection Open Days

More than two hundred people took advantage of two open days Transit’s Waterview Connection Project ran this week.

The open days at the Owairaka Primary School and Waterview Methodist Church attracted a steady stream of people interested in the project which proposes building a tunnel to connect SH20 at Mt Roskill to the Northwestern Motorway (SH16) at Waterview.

Principal project manager, Clive Fuhr said the open days were a chance for anyone interested in the project to find out more, meet Waterview Connection project staff and talk to other technical experts.

“People came to see the project models, numerous posters explaining aspects of the proposal and talk to engineers and other specialists in tunnelling, property rights or design elements, he said.

“We chose two local venues so that people most affected by the project could get to the open days. Just over 100 attended at Owairaka, despite it being a wet night and more than 120 came to the open day at Waterview.”

The next stage is for information days on March 15th at Owairaka and March 29th at Waterview.

“This gives people time to digest the information and come back to us with any particular issues they want to clarify or discuss,” said Mr Fuhr.

Comments on the tunnel proposal close on 11 April, 2008
