Heritage Grants Available In Rodney District

Media Release
1 April 2008

Grants of up $5,000 are now available from Rodney District Council’s Heritage Item Assistance Fund.

The fund closes on April 18 and is open to the public for the purpose of conserving, restoring, and protecting valued heritage items within the Rodney District for the enjoyment and benefit of current and future generations.

The fund is primarily available for heritage items within the Rodney district that are protected in the Proposed District Plan.

The fund is available for any projects that have a purpose of conserving, restoring, and protecting valued heritage items such as restoration or repair of original heritage fabric relating to historic buildings or structures or professional services (e.g. research, condition reports, conservation plans).

Funding applications are assessed by a heritage architect based on urgency, public access and visibility, level of enhancements and hertiage status.

Since the fund first opened in 2005, twenty-seven of Rodney District’s listed heritage buildings have been given grants including St Leonards Church in Matakana, Helensville’s Union Bank, the Puhoi Hotel, Henley House in Kaukapakapa and the Mahurangi West Hall.

Application forms are available from Council service centres or can be downloaded off the Council’s website at www.rodney.govt.nz/community/ heritage_fund.htm.
