Retirement village plan change to be notified
Retirement village plan change to be notified
Land in Kohimarama Road, formerly part of Selwyn College and now earmarked for a retirement village, will be subject to public notification of a private plan change.
The private plan change has been requested by Education Holdings Limited, which has a 150 year lease from the Ngati Whatua Orakei Maori Trust Board who purchased the land from the Ministry of Education when it became surplus to their requirements.
Included in the private plan change is land fronting on to John Rhymer Place, which Education Holdings Limited purchased to provide vehicle access to the main parcel of land.
The proposed change is to re-zone land currently zoned special purpose 2 (education) and residential 6a to special purpose 1 (health), and apply a site specific concept plan to guide future development.
Councillor Graeme Mulholland, deputy chairperson of the City Development Committee, said acceptance of the private plan change for notification did not imply the council or its planners supported the plan change.
“Unless a private plan change request is vexatious or frivolous the Resource Management Act requires us to notify it.
“A decision on its merits can only occur after submissions and a hearing by a commissioners’ panel,” he said.
