Free family
concert and walk for the animals
The Big Paws Out!, 2-5pm, 19 April, Soundshell, Napier
New Zealand’s art
deco capital city is set to turn up the volume and good
vibrations for the animals. National animal advocacy
organisation SAFE is to stage a free outdoor family concert
and walk for the animals in Napier
The Big Paws
Out! is set to attract a large crowd of concert goers to
celebrate our relationship with animals. The free concert at
the Soundshell features four awesome New Zealand
singer-songwriters who have all donated their time in
support of SAFE.
Auckland-based front woman Victoria
Girling-Butcher, of the popular pop band Lucid3, will give a
solo performance. When Victoria opened for James Blunt
during his show in Auckland he was so impressed he doubled
her fee! Flip Grater has shared the stage with many national
and international performers and one of her songs features
on the US blockbuster show Brothers and Sisters. Ragamuffin
Children are an upcoming indie-folk duo from Christchurch
with an inspiring repertoire of catchy upbeat lullabies. The
final performer on stage is no stranger to the Hawke’s
Bay: exceptional singer-songwriter Daniel Munro opened for
Eric Clapton last year and is said to rival greats such as
Cat Stevens, Don McLean and James Taylor with his
contemporary style.
Along with the music will be
face painting, vegetarian food stalls, a bouncy castle and
information stalls. The council has made a special
concession to allow friendly dogs on leads in the area to
join in on the day’s activities.
Walk for the
animals
Before the concert there will be a Compassionate
Steps Walk for the animals. This short walk will serve to
highlight our positive relationships with animals and
demonstrate our opposition to animals being used for animal
experiments.
Animal lovers and their families,
including the family pooch, are encouraged to join in on the
walk which will begin at 1pm from the Soundshell on Marine
Parade, Napier. Guest speaker Green MP Sue Kedgley will
speak of the secrecy surrounding animal research in New
Zealand following the
walk.
