Last chance to reward our city’s greatest helpers

There are only two weeks left to nominate a North Shore citizen, organisation or business for a prestigious 2007 North Shore City Civic Award.

Nominations for the annual awards close on Monday April 28, and North Shore Mayor Andrew Williams is encouraging the public to get their nominations in before it’s too late.

“Taking the time to nominate a person or organisation you know may take an hour or two of your time, but will go a long way toward recognising their kind and selfless community deeds”, Mayor Williams said.

Nominations can be made in the categories of community, not-for-profit organisation, citywide, youth and business.

Last year’s winners include The Takapuna Boating Club, North Shore Girl Guides, Benefitz Advertising and Graphics and the Mairangi Arts Centre Trust.

Individual winners included Cameron Calkoen, Ambassador for the North Shore Life Centre, Tom Cotter – Regional Co-ordinator for the Auckland budgeting service, and Sue Lim, who assists with the Asian home help service and health promotion for Asian refugees and migrants.

Previous recipients of a Civic Award are not eligible for nomination, but those who received an award of merit under the former Birkenhead City Council scheme are.
