Manukau’s talented, creative people wanted

ART source, a development programme for creative, entrepreneurial people in Manukau is looking for new talent to apply for its 2008 round. The programme aims to help people develop their talent into strategies to enable them to make a better living from their craft.

The programme is tailored for people who are into music, fashion, architecture, visual art, graphic design, animation, film making, landscape design, dance or theatre or any other areas of the creative sector.

It has already had success with many opportunities opening up for the 2007 participants who will shortly graduate from the programme.

One of the 2007 participants, Vela Manusaute, a comedian, writer and director of a local entertainment company based in Manurewa, is about to perform in his new show ‘Superfresh’ in the NZ International Comedy Festival in Auckland. With ART source, he has learned about personal and professional development and built up business skills.

“ART source meant I could focus on how to grow the business and actually look at it as a business. It’s awesome to keep doing what I love,” he says.

Now in its second year, the ART source programme is on the lookout for new participants to be part of the 2008 round.  Anyone who lives or works in Manukau, or who is connected to the communities of Manukau city is eligible to apply.

To give people an idea of what the programme is about, Vela Manusaute will be talking at the ART source Programme Launch which is happening on 8 May, 7pm at Otara Music Arts Centre.  All-girl band Vivah will open the evening with a music performance.

“Make sure you come to the programme launch to find out what it could do for you,” says Candy Elsmore, ART project director. “It’s a unique opportunity that really has the potential to transform the way that people approach the development of their creative enterprise.”

The closing date for applications to the year-long programme is 2 June.
